Complete interview of Playgirl Discovery Kenny Jones, published April 1989

"A little madness in the spring/Is wholesome even for the king," the poet Emily Dickinson once wrote. And we're sure you'll be crazy about our April Discovery, Kenny Jones - a Brooklyn boy who'll warm your heart like the first radiant days of spring.

What female could resist a guy who says, with a sensuous smile, "I really enjoy pleasing women?" As a bodybuilder who competes on the national level - he placed third in last year's Mr. America competition and second in Mr. USA in 1987 - Kenny's 5'10", 179-lb. body is pleasing even when he's not training. "Women are important to me," Kenny says simply. "I don't train only to win competitions. I also try to sculpt a body that women want to touch and kiss all over."

Kenny, who's 28 years old, began bodybuilding nine years ago. "I wasn't exactly a 98-pound weakling," Kenny laughs, his green eyes sparkling, "but it's taken a lot of sacrificing to get my body looking this good." In fact, one of the sacrifices is almost too much to bear. "When you're in training, you have to give up making love," he says. "That's so hard! I absolutely love to make love." Usually, he abstains for two or three months, but he's been without a woman for as long as five months. "A couple of times, I've broken training," he grins. "It was well worth it!"

When he's not training his own body, Kenny works as a personal trainer for others who want to define their forms. "I could never push paper around all day," he says. But even Kenny can't spend all his free time in the weight room, so during his time off he likes to watch movies on his VCR - The Terminator is his favorite - and listen to music. Sometimes, he dates. But although Kenny has a good looks to spare, some of his dating experiences haven't been so enjoyable. "A while ago," Kenny remembers, "I went out on this blind date. I picked her up in my car, and I stopped at a store to get some gum - I figured I might need it later, if I was going to kiss her goodnight. "Anyway, when I came out of the store, she was gone - and so was my car! I did get my car back," Kenny laughs, "but I didn't ask her out again."

But although Kenny's had some hard luck with dating, his heart is still soft. "I'm a real romantic," he says. "I like to do things like go out and treat a woman to a nice dinner, walk on the beach with her. One of my biggest fantasies is to meet a special lady, take her to the beaches of Rio de Janeiro and make wild love on the beach. We'd come back with no tan lines." Another fantasy is to live in a beach house fill with women. "That would be fun," he laughs.

Even if Kenny has a weakness for beautiful women, this strongman is no April Fool. If Emily Dickinson were around today, she couldn't help buy agree that Kenny's poetry in motion. Spring madness never felt so good.
